BEHRENS RITES ARE HELD ON THURSDAY
ACCIDENT IN OREGON FATAL TO FORMER GREENWOOD RESIDENT

Greenwood Funeral services for Carroll Behrens, 47, who died Aug. 30, 1943 at Portland, Ore., of injuries received in an automobile accident, where held Thursday morning, Sept. 9, at 11:30 o'clock at the Schiller Funeral home, where the body had been lying in state since its arrival in Greenwood Wednesday, and a 2 p.m. at Grace Methodist Church. The Rev. Alex J. Abbott had charge of the services, and interment was made in the Greenwood Cemetery.

During the services Abide with Me and In the Garden were sung by Mrs. Harold Stabnow and Mrs. Albert Dahl, accompanied by Mrs. John Meng.

Pallbearers were Louis Brown, Robert Zetsche, John Meng, Adelbert Wells, Harry Stafford, and William Dallman. Flowers were in charge of Mrs. Louis Brown and Mrs. Adelbert Wells.

Among those from away who attended the funeral were Mrs. Otto Anderson, Stevens Point Mrs. Arthur Long, Stanley Mrs. Harry Schmelzer and Mrs. Esther Burns and sons, Charles and Eugene, Madison.

Carroll Eugene Behrens, a World War Veteran, was born Sept. 23, 1895, in Greenwood. He was inducted into the armed forces of World War I Dec. 15, 1917, went overseas March 29, 1918, and was wounded in the battle at Sergy, France, Aug. 2, 1918. He spent eight months in a hospital in France and was honorably discharged May 17, 1919, and on June 22, 1922, he was married to Miss Esther Pidell of Coloma.

He is survived by three sons, Robert Behrens, with the U.S. Armed Forces overseas, and Eugene and Charles Behrens of Madison, and two brothers, Fred and Clyde Behrens, Greenwood.
